A “Sneak Peak” at Peakhill Capital From Pam Greenstein, Senior Vice President of People and Culture

Firm News

1 Year Update

Pam Greenstein, TORONTO – It’s hard to believe that I’ve been at Peakhill Capital for a year. This job has far exceeded my expectations, and we have accomplished so much more than I anticipated.

Every time people ask me about my job, I say its “refreshing”, because I’ve never had a professional experience like this. It’s a combination of fast pace, huge growth, great learning and fun. Almost every week, we’re welcoming new faces and celebrating new business. In 2024, we hired 53 new employees, 14 of them in brand new roles, as well as promoting 10 people to the next level. We’ve invested in our technical and leadership skills through Strengths Finder assessments, completed an 8-week in-person Dale Carnegie course, which increased our self-awareness, confidence, and communication skills.  We enhanced our sales acumen through small group sessions with an expert in the field and launched “Underwriting 101” for our Credit and Origination Analysts, to learn how to navigate complexities within various deals. Our Montreal office has doubled and we’re looking to open an office in Calgary in the next few months. I’m in awe of what we accomplished, I could pinch myself.

My People and Culture peers tell me that they struggle with getting people back to the office, challenged by leaders who want people in, yet are not there themselves. From what I hear, their once robust and lively culture is now confusing and directionless. Not Peakhill. We work in person five days a week, which helps us move fast and get things done. We don’t have long meetings, or hierarchies. Instead, people collaborate, help each other, and move things along in real time. Decisions get made quickly. We eat lunch together and share stories. We laugh and celebrate meaningful milestones. People post regular “shout outs” in our growing company Teams chat. Last Friday afternoon, we set up two poker tables, and our President & CEO taught people how to play. I chuckled as colleagues jumped for joy when they started to win some hands. Show me a company that does this!

Aside from the professional experience, I’ve experienced many personal benefits, such as networking with new people, and getting involved in the community through some of our sponsorships. I started working out again, as Peakhill offers a significant subsidy of the cost of an amazing gym. I’m having a great time learning to play squash with colleagues.

Of course, its not all perfect. It can be scary to grow quickly, to ensure we scale practically and keep our tight knit culture. We need to continue to invest in the right places, work hard, support each other, stay resilient, and support the challenges that our borrowers and investors are experiencing in these unusual times.

I’m excited for what the next year will bring. Go Peakhill!

3 Month Update

Pam Greenstein, TORONTO – I’ve now finished my first few months at Peakhill Capital as our Senior Vice President of People and Culture. What an amazing experience it’s been so far!

I came to this newly created role with experience in other industries, namely Retail, Gold Mining, Non-for-Profit and Technology.  Commercial Real Estate is new to me, and I’m loving it.  In my short tenure, I’ve already learned so much by meeting with employees one on one, asking questions, participating in various discussions, and joining a CREW meeting (Commercial Real Estate for Women, who knew that existed?? YAY!!).  I look forward to understanding so much more in the coming weeks and months.

The word I would use to describe what it is like to work at Peakhill Capital is “refreshing”. It’s fast paced, entrepreneurial, creative, hard working and fun.  Everyone comes to the office each day, and that is an incredible change from working remotely for the last 3+ years.   It means that we can help each other with questions in real time, discuss and agree on how best to proceed on a project, and debate issues. It also creates a lighthearted and learning culture. The healthy snacks help too, as well as bagels and cream cheese on Friday mornings when we gather to share ideas about the business.

I commend Harley Gold and those who joined him in the early days of the company for building an inspiring place to work. There is so much that Peakhill Capital offers, it is not only a place to roll your sleeves up to learn about the business and industry, and a great office work environment; but it also offers the chance to attend company sponsored charity events, meet people in the community to grow your network, and participate in an RRSP matching and Parental Top Up programs.  In five years, the company has grown to over 70 employees, spread across Toronto, Montreal, Calgary, Edmonton, and Vancouver. We are hiring in almost every department, given our demonstrated success and demand.  What a great time to join!
