Senior Associate, CMHC Program
MONTREAL, QC | CALGARY, AB
Job & Company Description
Peakhill Capital is a commercial real estate capital provider with mortgage investments across all real estate asset classes in Canada. Our equity platform (Peakhill Equity Partners) is an opportunistic equity platform focused on investments in ground up and value-add projects in Canada and the United States.
We are looking for a Senior Associate, CMHC Program, reporting to the Associate Director, CMHC. The candidate can be based in Montreal or Calgary.
Responsibilities
- Reviews all CMHC applications prior to submission to CMHC in a timely manner, ensuring accuracy and compliance
- Manages tight Service Level Agreements to turn around applications at a high level of accuracy and completeness
- Responsible to ensure all Peakhill policies and procedures are aligned with CMHC’s requirements, including changes to the Lender’s Handbook and subsequent guidance as distributed by CMHC from time to time.
- Develops and facilitates strong ongoing relationship with CMHC’s multi-unit underwriting group, ensuring stakeholder satisfaction with application quality.
- Hire and manage CMHC team within Peakhill, owning process of CMHC applications from start to finish.
- Provides ongoing feedback to the origination and analyst teams on CMHC requirements as they change or as common themes are identified
- Leads the team for all audits relating to the CMHC program at Peakhill, leveraging credit team as necessary.
- Manages the performance of 3-5 direct reports
Education/Technical Experience
- University/College degree in Business Admin or related field is preferred
- Minimum of 3 years of finance/accounting/mortgage experience
- Knowledge of the Canadian Mortgage Industry
- Understanding of Mortgage-Backed Securities and CMHC requirements
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word/Access
- Expert knowledge of Excel

- Conduct due diligence and investigation to develop an understanding of the borrower’s profile, analyze and interpret financial data, assess the value of the underlying asset, as well as underwrite and fund commercial mortgage transactions
- Prepare prequalification summaries, term sheets, credit presentations, commitment letters, buy sheets, gather and review conditions precedent and legal documents, and all such related matters to fund loans within tight deadlines
- Maintain ongoing interaction with clients, including performing site visits, and internal credit committee to ensure thorough underwriting and funding of the loan
- Staying current with market information and commercial mortgage market trends
- Build a network within the industry through meetings, events, and involvement in real estate trade organizations
Qualifications

Seeking an Associate Director, Credit Risk to support the credit risk and underwriting functions. Reporting to the Director, the ideal candidate would be well versed in complex deal structuring, annual review oversight as well as financial auditing and investor relations.
Responsibilities
- Supervise a team of 4-6 analyst underwriters, providing performance feedback, mentoring, and skill development
- Contribute to the organization’s strategic direction by developing and implementing Risk
- Management strategies, policies, and procedures
- Review commitment letters, credit presentations, and funding checklists for accuracy and compliance
- Participate in credit committee discussions to ensure effective risk identification and mitigation

Peakhill provides bridge, construction and long term financing focused on loans $5-50M throughout Canada. Must be a licensed mortgage agent in Quebec or real estate agent.

Responsibilities
- Brand new role working in the Funding department
- Assisting and supporting various personnel by completing initial funding file set up, instructing external consultants, and processing loan advances.
- Collect, review, and verify loan documentation and funding information from various stakeholders and third parties.
- Ensure all pre-funding requirement are met in time for the established funding date and all documentation corresponds to the terms of the commitment and in compliance with established regulatory and company guidelines and policies.
- Deliver services as contracted and protect confidentiality of loan information.
- Coordinate with accounting department for the release of mortgage funds on a timely basis.
- Ensure loan are set up accurately onto mortgage system, review all advances balance and the reconcile any discrepancies.
- Coordinate closely with the Origination and Underwriting department.
Education/Technical Experience
- Will take a new grad, but ideally have some work experience in Commercial Real Estate.
- Ideally have working knowledge of conventional, commercial and CMHC loans for retail, industrial and multi-family real estate and other forms of commercial real estate.
- Previous legal background is considered an asset.

- Undergraduate degree, preferably with a focus in a related field.
